As Father Helminiak points out, the Bible has no concept of homosexuality, which is a modern concept and word. What one can study is what the Bible says about what we would class as some forms of homosexual behavior. But the biblical authors lacked the concept, and so could not classify anything as by:   On Tuesday afternoon, CNN ran an article on its Belief Blog by Catholic priest (sort of) Daniel Helminiak entitled “My Take: What the Bible really says about homosexuality.” The article is amazing for including so many bad arguments in so little space. A quick trip through the piece will show you what I mean. Helminiak’s writing will be in bold and then my response will : Kevin Deyoung.

In my previous post, I summarized the Good and Questionable parts of Kevin DeYoung’s new book, What Does the Bible Really Teach about , I think this is quite simply a fantastic book that needs to be read by every Christian. And I probably agree with % of what Kevin : Preston Sprinkle.   Question: "What does the Bible say about homosexuality?" Answer: In some people’s minds, being homosexual is as much outside one’s control as the color of your skin and your height. On the other hand, the Bible clearly and consistently declares that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis –13; Leviticus ; ; Romans –27; 1 Corinthians ).

I highly recommend Kevin DeYoung’s new book, What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality? (You can get it for less than $10 at also sells them by the case.). The book has a simple structure. The first part is on understanding God’s Word. One Man, One Woman, One Flesh; Those Infamous Cities (Genesis 19) Taking a Strange Book Seriously (Leviti 20). I’ve picked a few of these books, and I hope over the course of the summer to help you be more aware of what’s out there, what might actually be helpful, and what’s probably not worth your time. Up first is Kevin DeYoung’s What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality.

The Bible has been used to justify slavery, inquisitions, apartheid and the subjugation of women. Now, in this books which has sold over thousand copies, read Cited by: The book doesn't try to define exactly what the Bible does say on homosexuality, but rather what it doesn't.

Sometimes Helminiak will come right out with his criticism of bad exegesis, i.e., in helping put to rest that useless myth about Sodom being destroyed for it's homosexual populace.4/5(46).

The Bible says more than enough about homosexual practice for us to say something too. *In America, the first abolitionist tract was published in by Samuel Sewall, a devout Puritan.

Clearly, the church’s opposition to slavery is not a recent phenomenon/5(). Believing that the translation of the Bible they use consists of the inerrant word of God, some Christians cite a handful of passages to justify their condemnation of homosexuality.

But historical biblical scholarship holds that these believers' conception of inerrancy is /5(). In order to review what the Bible actually says about homosexuality, as well as what others are saying about it, I’ll group similar verses below and give a brief summary of the major differences in interpretation.

Then, I’ll outline the four most common stances Christians take regarding these Author: David Lose. The Bible Doesn’t Say That Homosexuality is a Sin: An Analysis of the Seven Scriptures Sometimes Claimed to Refer to Homosexuality Some Christians believe the Bible tells us that homosexuals are sinners.

The current trend of increased acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communityFile Size: KB. The Bible says nothing about "homosexuality" as an innate dimension of personality. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times.

There are references in the Bible to same-gender sexual behavior, and all of them are undeniably negative. The Bible doesn’t comment directly on the biology of homosexual desires, though it acknowledges that we are all born with a tendency to go against what God commands.

(Romans 7: 25) Rather than focus on the cause of homosexual desires, however, the Bible prohibits homosexual acts. “Written with the deftness, clarity, and tender grace we’ve come to expect from DeYoung, What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality. answers, point by point, the revisionist theology making inroads in even the most conservative theological circles.

It is simply the very best resource any follower of Christ can have to answer the challenge of homosexuality in the church.”. In What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality.

DeYoung puts all of this on display while dealing with perhaps the most relevant hot-button issue in America today. In this "mercifully short" book, DeYoung argues that marriage and sexuality are presented in the Bible as being Conservative Evangelicalism needs more voices displaying what Russell Moore calls "convictional /5.

A down-to-earth look at the spiritual power of sex Sex and the Sacred examines the spiritual dimension of human sexuality in a way that is free of religious affiliation but still open to traditional religion and belief in God. Daniel Helminiak, author of the best-selling What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality, looks at the relationship between sexuality and spirituality, first.

Taken on its own terms, read in the original languages, placed back into its historical context, the Bible is ho-hum on homosexuality, unless – as with heterosexuality –.

In this timely book, award-winning author Kevin DeYoung challenges each of us - the skeptic, the seeker, the certain, and the confused - to take a humble look at God's Word regarding the issue of examining key biblical passages in both the Old and New Testaments and the Bible's overarching teaching regarding sexuality, DeYoung responds to popular objections raised by 5/5(4).

This book is a delight in making the incomprehensible, confusing, the "tabooed" subject of sex palatable to all. Blizzard's direct, no-nonsense, concise approach finally brings to light what the Bible really says about sex. A crowning achievement, to say the very least.

- Opher Segal, Writer/Producer/5(32). It explains a lot about what the Bible REALLY says and means, delving deeply into what the meaning was at the time the Bible was written. We are enjoying it very much and hope that people will listen to us as we explain what the Bible really means about homosexuality, not what they want the Bible to say to clobber others, but the real meaning/5().

2) The Bible is a heterosexual book. Gay theologians often make reference to the so-called "clobber passages" in the Scriptures, by which they mean the main verses the church has used to clobber them over the head with the Bible.

They raise two main arguments against the use of these verses. What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality. Daniel A. Helminiak. Alamo Square Press, One of the most honest examinations of the Bible and homosexuality I've read yet.
